Dreams

As darkness fell, a rattling dream came nigh
And spun me, shaking, trembling, less than sure
Of any waking dreams that might outcry
To tempt me, when awake, from love so pure

The dream, though bitter, spoke to our affair
Of frutiless alleys, and of tangent need
Of need, within the blushing, to declare,
Despite the blush, the brush to fuel fire’s feed

Subconscious fire did flicker in my mind
T’ward lightened paths of alleys yet awake
In constant waking dreams — and still, I find
My spirit charting better charts to take

Within you and without, I see my cause
Bend to the course which leads to your applause
